This disease occurs predominantly among young women.

There is Bilateral and symmetrical spasm of digital arteries as a result of cold.

Hands are much more commonly affected than the feet.

On exposure to cold fingertips, then fingers and finally the hands become pale, cold and pulseless with impairment of sensation and fine movements.

There is patchy discoloration red, white and blue, of the affected areas of the hands.

In later stages gangrene of finger tips may develop.

There is reflex vasodilatation on recovery with affected parts becoming red and warm.
